Having an online presence is a gift for any business these days and I don’t think anybody would disagree with that. What I found with my clients and students is that many business owners have all the pieces of the puzzle for a really powerful modern marketing strategy but haven’t quite put it all together yet.
And let’s face it, the options are overwhelming and there are so many different ways you can market yourself online and we are often faced with conflicting advice on which Social Media Platform that we should be on, whether you should blog or not, how to build your client base online and so on. So before we leap into the nitty-gritty of your online marketing options and strategies, I want you to consider the first of the 3 Golden Rules to optimize presence online.
Number 1 rule is to be clear on your goals. That might sound obvious. Just think for a second what you are trying to achieve with your online marketing. Dig down and actually think about what it is you are trying to do and if you can focus on one outcome; if you can have that clarity having one outcome, knowing what success looks like for you and how you would measure it rather than trying to do everything to everybody in one go, you will be really successful.
So let’s look at the different strategies you can employ. Are you establishing yourself as an expert or building your personal brand? If so, you want to position as the go to person in your niche or your industry. So you will need to spend time building up your credentials, getting active in your community, getting in front on the right people, getting noticed via your influences by your core potential clients and customers. There are other ways you can do this: you online marketing strategy might include joining LinkedIn or Meet-up groups. You might host webinars and hangouts. You might start a Google+ community or Facebook group.
Perhaps your online marketing strategy is to make some extra income with Affiliate Marketing- this is when you are selling other peoples products, in which case you need to focus on building a sales funnel. So you need a process through your website for your potential clients to follow. You need a very good sales copy so that you stand out online and you need to be keeping up with the latest product launches.
Now, as a small business owner you might be more focused on lead generation. Social media is an excellent way to generate leads. You can pre-sell on social media and it is a fantastic way to build brand awareness and to build your list.
